Picked up Josh from Carols after meeting Wilma walking the dogs after school on Friday. Does that sentance sound busy, well that was my brain on friday afternoon after an intense week of school, never mind the mathematics. Josh and I returned home for some R 'n R and some playtime, had to admit to Josh that so far i havn't been a very good fisherman. Need more practice i suppose.
Had a hour successful worm pumping at Muizenberg, tide was a bit high but still mangaged my quota of 5.
Had chicken ( again) for supper, and left about 7 with Josh tucked up in be watching "over the hedge" for the 23 time. Avoided going to Muizenberg instead went to Sonwabe, first cast around 7:30 , tide had just turned. There were only three groups of fisherman there, two had just arrived and one had been there for an hour. Now here is an intersting thing, the Hour long fisherman was a black dude, I remark, because having grown up in south Africa race is part of my consciousness, and it was unusaul because in all my evening fishing this was the first black guy i had come across. Firendly like all the fisherman i have met.
He was using bloodworm and sardine, and had't had a bite. Well as i learned at Port St JOhns at the caravn park form the owner,
"You can't catch a fish if you don't have a line in the water"
Baited up with Blood worm freshly pumped that evening, cast as always with high expectations, although they are steadily becomming more pragmatic in the face of the dearth of fish.
The wind had switched aroud to South East about 12 pm and now was gently and coldly blowing in my face. Even though i had now four jersies, and my jacket and waders and a hat, i was stilled chilled. Especially after wading, when the wind chill and evaporation froze me even more.
Manage an hour and a half of absolutely no bites. 90 minutes of waiting, some spent lying on the sand with my back to the wind waiting for that elixir of sound ,the reel run. Not to be, I returned home. At least to a sleeping Josh and an electric blanket turned up high.
