| « Day 20 Sonwabe, no fish but got a bite. | Day 18 Blockhouse, I think. Strandfontein. » |
Was supposed to wake up early and head off to Gordans bay to try for an elusive belman, however could't really sleep until 12:30 am so lacke sufficient vooma to get up, besides my little annoying alarm clock was back at his mothers.
Was visiting Jill and my mum in Gordans bay so took the rods for a fish on the return journey. Only finished helping my mother with her passport forms around 6 pm so drove back to yet another fire orange powder sky, with mist blanketing the fields, surreal. Stopped at Sonwabe Strandfontein, spoke to a fisherman in a green bakkie who was just leaving and he said that he had been there the whole day and caught nothing. Dedication for sure. He also said that he should of gone home and returned to fish as I was because this was the time.
"there is always fish here in the evening' he said, "see that guy with four rods over there he caught 4 Steenbras last night this time"
I neglected to pint out that you are only allowed one of 55 cm!
"do you have worm and prawn' he asked
" Yes and yes" I excitedly replied.
Maybe, just maybe I was in the right place at the right time. Hurried up and set up the rod and cast. My pendulum is coming along rather nicely even on the Shimano that I have now transferred to the assassin until I can get line for my favourite Daiwa.
Lit a cigarette, got my chair from the car and sat down in the face of a very chilly Southerly that was gently freezing off the sea. Tucked my arms inside my sleeves like a Manchurian, watched the stars. Noticing how the Southern cross was high overhead. In summer it is more on the horizon. Wondered also what all the other stars were called must make an effort to try and find out the constellations because the starts are my constant companions on these crystal evenings. No bloody fish though, crabs eating my bait. Still didn't stay long enough as was tired from my lack of sleep and big day out in the country.
There is always tomorrow.
The fishmobile is going in for a service tomorrow, so thumbs crossed it will be a cheap one. There is always tomorrow.
