365 days of fishing

10 degrees ouside, add windchill, grey sky rain that wants to be ice, wind that respects no layers. All in all a serious challenge to my commitment, but a man has to do what a man has to do.

Dropped the boy off at Carols after a day spen playing computer games, watching you-tube fishing videos and dreaming of a fishing holiday to Thailand, Mummy squashed that, can't bear to be without her son for six months. So once again what we are and what we as adults want is passed onto our children. What is wrong with the adventure of a lifetime when you are 7 ?

After dropping Josh off, parked at the river mouth that has been open for a couple of days now. Thought that maybe, just maybe, the Kobbies would be attracted by the warmer water gushing out into the cold sea and the numerous mullet that crowd around the entrance, either trying to get in or out, maybe the tide was too low. I certainly had to wade far out and still the shallowness extended and also just not getting distance.

I keep promising to go and improve my casting, well will get around to it. I understand that the fish are not always far away, but it is general consenses here in the cape, in the daytime,  that the bigger kob are just beyond the breakers or close to the backline, which is definitely a good wade and then a 100m cast in these shallow gentle sloping beaches of the Muizenberg and Strandfontein.

Tonight in the grey dusk, with the particular smell of algae that one gets at places where freshwater meets the sea, musky green,with sweet hints of decay, spent 45 minutes with bait in the surf. The neatly wrapped pilchard came out looking as appetising as it went in, I just cut the line and put in my bait box ready for tommorow
